Funeral Services for Elvis D. Baumwart, 91, Clinton resident will be held 10:00 A.M., Wednesday, August 13, 2014 in the First Christian Church, officiated by Pat Peters and burial will conclude in the Clinton Cemetery under the direction of the Kiesau-Lee Funeral Home. Elvis Dale Baumwart was born July 15, 1923 to Glen and Alice (Mingus) Baumwart in Canute, Oklahoma and passed away early Wednesday morning, August 6, 2014 in the Sterling House Assisted Living in Edmond, OK. The Baumwart family moved to Clinton when Elvis was very young. He attended Clinton Schools where he graduated in 1942. He was soon employed with the Union Pacific Rail Road Shops as a boiler-maker helper in Los Angeles, California. He enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Corp on December 7, 1942. He was a radio operator and mechanic of the 20th Air Force Bomber of B-29 planes. He received an American Service Medal, European African Middle Eastern Service Medal and Asiatic Pacific Theater Service Medal with five Bronze Battle Stars, His Military Service took him completely around the world before he was honorably discharged on November of 1945 with a rank of Sergeant. On July 6, 1946 he was married to Iris Jean Miller, from Arapaho, OK, in Wheeler, TX. They made their home in Clinton and he became a butcher and worked in the meat markets of Bestway and Puckett Food Stores for two years. In 1948 he began a career with the U.S. Postal Service and in 1977 he transferred to Butler, OK as rural mail carrier for almost three years. He retired from the U.S. Post Office in November 0f 1980 and received his 35 year pin for service accomplished with his military service. Following his Postal retirement, he worked over eight years full and part time driving the Bookmobile for the Western Plains Library. He was a longtime faithful and active member of the First Christian Church, a member of the Friendship Sunday School Class, the American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars, and Masonic Lodge; He has served as Scout Master and then Assistant Scout Master for several years for Troop 362 who met at the First Christian Church. He has assisted many scouts attain their merit badges by teaching them Morse Code and Signaling. He enjoyed the outdoors, fishing, hunting, spending time on their small farm Northwest of Clinton. He is preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Iris, a son, Marvin Dale Baumwart and two sisters Glendora Melder and Eula Mae Ballard and a brother Eldon Baumwart. He is survived by a daughter, Carolyn Bell and husband, Robert of Edmond, OK, son, Alvin Baumwart and wife, Donna, of Arapaho, Ok. He is also survived by four grandchildren, Angie DuBois, and husband, Bill ,of Mustang, Ryan Baumwart and wife, Shaundra, of Stillwater, Chad Baumwart and wife, April, of Oklahoma City and Colin Bell, of Stillwater, OK and two Great-grandchildren, Iris and Vince DuBois and a sister-in-law, Emma Lou Vogt and husband, Paul of Clinton. The family would like to express their sincere thanks to the Danforth Sterling House and Autumn Bridge Hospice for their love and compassion during our dad's illness.
