Charles E. Fletcher

Charles “Charlie” Elwood Fletcher was born on March 10, 1948, in Shreveport, Louisiana, to Samuel Fletcher Sr. and Angeline Reynolds Fletcher. He passed peacefully on Wednesday, September 16, 2026, in Oklahoma City, with his family by his side.

Charlie was raised in Gallup, New Mexico, and attended Gallup High School. He later attended Eastern New Mexico University in Portales, New Mexico, and Fort Lewis College in Durango, Colorado.

Charlie dedicated many years of his life to public service, first in law enforcement and then in healthcare. During his law enforcement career, he served on the New Mexico Mounted Patrol, which was an all-volunteer state law enforcement agency. Upon entering the healthcare field, he worked at the Indian Health Service Navajo Area office in Window Rock, Arizona, as a budget analyst and was known as the “travel guy”. After many years at the Navajo Area Office, he moved back to Oklahoma and became the Administrative Officer for the Clinton Service Unit until he retired with forty-plus years of total federal service.

Upon his retirement, he remained active as a healthcare advocate and was nominated to serve on the Cheyenne and Arapaho Tribal Health Board. In 2024, Charlie decided to step down from the health board to focus on his health.

Charlie is preceded in death by his son, Marquis Dann; great-grandson, Aiden Malloy Fletcher; his parents, Samuel Fletcher Sr. and Angeline Reynolds Fletcher; his brothers Samuel Fletcher Jr. and Randy Fletcher, and his sister Patricia Fletcher Slinkey.

Charlie is survived by his wife of fifty-one years, Sandi Fletcher of the home; one son, Charles J. Fletcher of El Reno, Oklahoma; three daughters, Cee-Jay Fletcher of Durant, Oklahoma, Angie Fletcher of Clinton, Oklahoma, and Dr. Kateri Fletcher-Sahmaunt and husband Jacob Sahmaunt of Blanchard, Oklahoma. Ten grandchildren, Channah Fletcher, Jaren Ingram, Ashlynn Fletcher, Mackenzie Pete, Leila Pete, Nauko Fletcher-Whiteman, Courage Fletcher-Whiteman, Kayleigh Fletcher, Marcus Sahmaunt, and Micah Sahmaunt; and sister Virginia Chavez of Acoma, New Mexico, and many nieces and nephews.

A Traditional Wake will be at 7 PM, Sunday, September 20, 2026, at the Cheyenne and Arapaho Emergency Response Center, 2015 Dogpatch Road, Clinton, Oklahoma.

Funeral Services will be at 10 AM, Monday, September 21, 2026, at the Cheyenne and Arapaho Emergency Response Center, 2015 Dogpatch Road, Clinton, Oklahoma.

Interment will follow services at the Clinton Cemetery, 900 West Commerce Road, Clinton, Oklahoma.
