Cherry Thompson-Davis

Cherry Lea Thompson-Davis, a lifelong Clinton resident, passed away at her home in Sharon, Oklahoma, on Thursday, August 13, 2026. She was 77 years old.

Cherry was born on March 10, 1949, in Clinton, Oklahoma, to Wilburn and Hazel Johnson. She was a lifelong resident of Clinton, Oklahoma, until later in life, when she moved to Sharon, Oklahoma to be closer to her family. Cherry graduated from Arapaho High School in 1967. That same year, she married the love of her life, Terry Thompson, and together they made their home in Clinton, raising three sons and two daughters. They shared 25 years of marriage before Terry's passing.

Cherry worked for Clinton Public Schools as a janitor for approximately 15 years during the 1980s and 1990s. She was more than just the person who kept the school clean; she was someone the children knew and loved. Cherry's warm smile, kind voice, and caring nature made her a familiar and comforting presence in the hallways. She was about as tall as many of the children, which made her seem even more approachable to them. She enjoyed seeing the children each day and took pride in being part of their school. For many of those children, Cherry was a special part of their school years, and she will be remembered fondly by the students who knew her.

Cherry was a sweet, positive person who was always pleasant to be around. Her home was a welcoming place where people could feel comfortable and cared for. She had a giving heart and loved taking care of her family. Every Christmas, she made sure each of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren had a gift waiting for them.

If you asked Cherry how she was doing, her answer was almost always, “I'm fine,” even on the days when she wasn't feeling her best. That simple answer was just part of who she was.

Cherry loved playing many card games with her friends, with Pitch being her favorite. She also loved reading paperback romance novels and could often be found heading to the thrift store in search of another book to add to her collection. In her younger years, she enjoyed crocheting. She was also a fan of junk food, especially Moon Pies and carrot cake.

One of Cherry's greatest joys was her grandchildren. She loved attending their activities and being involved in their lives. She especially loved collecting pictures of them, and her home was filled with photographs of her grandchildren for everyone to see. Family was incredibly important to Cherry, and she found great happiness in watching her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren grow.

Cherry was also a strong woman who had been through more than most. In 2002, she received a heart transplant, giving her many more years with the people she loved. She had cared for Terry during their marriage, and she continued to put her family first throughout her life.

Cherry will be remembered for her kind heart, her positive spirit, her love of family, her welcoming home, and the little things that made her who she was. She leaves behind a family who will miss her dearly and countless memories that will continue to bring smiles and comfort for years to come.

Cherry is survived by her sons, Jeff Thompson and his wife, Rosetta, of Sharon, Oklahoma; Derick Thompson and Ryan Thompson, both of Clinton, Oklahoma; daughters, Carrie Lynn Spires of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, and Donna Fulton and her husband, Don, of Edmond, Oklahoma; mother-in-law, Claudia Thompson; sisters, MaryGay Harbin of Choctaw, Oklahoma; Pauline Celsor and her husband, Scott, of Yukon, Oklahoma; Lana Jones of Clinton, Oklahoma; Carrie Ellen Willingham of Yukon, Oklahoma; and Vicki Watkins and her husband, Kenneth, of Arapaho, Oklahoma; sisters-in-law, Tricia Thompson of Clinton, Oklahoma, and Brenda Hindbaugh of Clinton, Oklahoma; and 29 grandchildren, including Lexi White and her husband, Clint; Adam Perez and his wife, Paige; Dakota Thompson and his wife, Brittany; Christian Thompson and his wife, Anna; Rosie Castillo and her husband, Ihzan; Tera Morgan and her husband, Roy; Kiara Deviney and her husband, Caleb; Braydon Thompson; Taylor Thompson; Jerod Thompson; Connor Albert and his wife, Auri; Andrew Rivera; Kristen Rivera; Zack Reardon; Eli Thompson; Madison Cookerly; Maddox Thompson; Elyssa Thompson; Noah Thompson; Luke Thompson; and Trey Albert, as well as 26 great-grandchildren.

Cherry was preceded in death by her husband, Terry Thompson.
