LaVeta Mae Marshall was born May 10, 1934, to Eithel Delbert Williams and Bertha Emily (Hensley) Williams in Butler, OK and passed away Monday, February 26, 2024, in Stillwater, OK.
LaVeta was raised and attended school in Butler, OK. She also attended a bookkeeping and secretarial school to learn shorthand and secretarial skills. She was employed as a secretary to a doctor at the Tuberculosis Sanitorium before having a career with Collins and Aikman Factory where she retired as personnel manager.
She was married to Leland Wheeler in 1956, in Dill City, OK and Bill Goodrum in 1971, in Cordell, OK and Mr. Goodrum preceded her in death, and she later married Raymond Marshall in 1991 in TX and he preceded her in death.
She had a love for the Lord and gave her life to Jesus Christ at the Broadway Heights Baptist Church in Clinton. She was a long time and active member of the Bessie Baptist Church where she was a member of the Women’s Missionary Group and the Bessie Messengers singing group. The singing group traveled to many nursing homes singing and ministering to the elderly and shut ins. For the past 11 years she was a member of the Cordell First Baptist Church and enjoyed being a part of her Sunday School Class and prayer group.
She grew up in a musically talented family and they all enjoyed getting together to play the guitar, sing and fellowship. She loved horses, barrel racing and going to rodeos. All who knew LaVeta loved her. She was always happy, smiling, and her contagious laughter lit up the room. She loved traveling with her kids and grandkids and spending time with her whole family.
Besides her husbands, she is preceded in death by her parents, a daughter, Sharon Wheeler, grandson, Josh Ramsey, sisters, Delores Stidham, Martha Jo Swart, Wanda Blain, Anna Lee McDaniel, and Linda Shannon, two brothers, Delbert Williams, and Eddie Pool.
She is survived by daughters, Debbi Mantooth and husband, Chuck, Sterling, OK, Gina Ramsey and husband, Michael, Stillwater, OK, Emily Weixel and husband, Mike, Cordell, OK, son, Brent Wheeler and Tammra, Elk City, OK, three sisters, Betty Davis, Elk City, OK, Delberta Lynch, Cheyenne, OK, Nelda Johnson and husband, Robert, Carter, OK.
She is also survived by two stepsons, Butch Marshall and wife, Patti, Elk City, OK and Joel Marshall and wife, Liz, Arapaho, OK, step daughter, Renee’ DeSpain and husband, Carl, Arapaho, OK 11 grandchildren, Jennifer Cary, Justin Skaggs, James Evans, Christina Watts, Matt Chu, Laura Chu, Brandon Standingwater, Brian Ramsey, Angela Short, Brooklin Bell and Tyler Weixel and nine great-grandchildren and several bonus grandchildren and great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
