Phillip Lee Sumpter, aged 62, of Clinton, Oklahoma, passed away on March 3, 2026.
Born on November 2, 1963, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Phillip was the son of Wayne and June (Phillips) Sumpter. He graduated from Dill City High School in 1983 and went on to pursue his education at Southwestern Oklahoma State University, where he earned his bachelor’s degree in 1988.
Phillip’s professional journey included a unique experience working in Brazil, where he contributed to laying cable in the Amazon. Beyond his career, he had a deep passion for gardening, particularly cultivating organic vegetables. He found joy in hunting wild hogs and cherished his time at home, surrounded by the many cats he raised. Additionally, Phillip was an expert knot tier, a skill he developed during his time in Boy Scouts, showcasing his love for practical crafts.
He is survived by his parents, Wayne and June Sumpter of Longdale, Oklahoma; his devoted sisters, Chloe Janning Duerr and her husband Mike of Clinton, Oklahoma, and Mary Kay Love of Mustang, Oklahoma; his brother, Steve Sumpter and wife Jan of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; as well as his nephews, Brandon Sumpter, Colton Sumpter, and John Henry Janning, and nieces, Promise Janae Chambers and Georgia June Love.
