Richard Lee Pray, 72, of Goldsby, Oklahoma, passed away peacefully at his home, surrounded by his family, on October 31, 2026.

Richard was born on July 27, 1954, in Wichita, Kansas, to Vernon L. Pray and Helen Louise (Coffman) Pray. He spent the first eight years of his childhood in Ponca City, Oklahoma, before his family relocated to Moore, where he continued his education and graduated from high school. He later attended the University of Oklahoma, an institution that would remain especially meaningful to him throughout his life.

Following college, Richard began a career in business management and administration, first serving as assistant manager at Discount Lumber Mart. He later entered into a partnership in an office furniture business, where his determination, business knowledge, and perseverance helped transform the store into a thriving enterprise despite numerous challenges. He continued his professional career with Firestone, working in business administration and management while developing an appreciation for the technical aspects of the automotive industry. Richard concluded his career with BlueHaven Pools, where he served as Senior Accountant for many years before retiring in 2020.

Outside of his professional life, Richard found enjoyment in the things he held dear. He especially loved spending time with family and friends, attending University of Oklahoma football games, and visiting local car shows, where he proudly displayed his classic automobiles. Among his prized possessions were his 1967 Camaro and 1970 Oldsmobile Cutlass, both reflecting his appreciation for classic cars and automotive history. Richard was a proud member of the Canadian River Cruisers Car Club.

A devoted Oklahoma Sooners fan, Richard's loyalty to the University of Oklahoma extended well beyond the football field. He was a generous supporter of the university and a Charter Member of the 1895 Club, demonstrating his lasting commitment to an institution he deeply admired.

Richard also had a strong appreciation for American history and his family's place within it. He was a posthumous member of the John Hancock Chapter No. 28 of the Sons of the American Revolution (SAR), an affiliation that reflected his interest in preserving the nation's history and honoring those who came before him.

His own family history was especially important to Richard. He took great pride in the heritage of both the Pray and Love families and spent time learning about the people, places, and stories that shaped his family's past. He was particularly proud of his family's historical connection to Eli Whitney and the first cotton gin in Purcell. The Love family had deep roots in the early development of the Purcell community, dating back to the 1860s and 1870s. Richard held a special appreciation for this legacy and took great pride in the Robert J. Love heritage.

Richard's early life was shaped by the loss of his father, Vernon L. Pray, who passed away while serving his country in Vietnam. His mother later married Kenneth Love, who helped raise Richard and became an important part of his life. Richard cherished his Love family and the relationships and family connections that remained close to his heart throughout the years.

He also leaves behind his faithful companion, Garfy, who held a very special place in his heart.

Richard was preceded in death by his mother, Helen L. Love and his stepfather, Kenneth Love who lovingly raised him following his father Vernon L. Pray’s passing; his maternal grandparents, Alvin E. and Sylvia Ruth Coffman.

Richard is survived by his brother, Robert Pray, cousins and many friends.
